Description
Leaks in plastic water pipes are costly to repair, damaging to the environment, and time-consuming, locating the pipe is often one of the first steps to repairing the leak.

FEATURES-
While conventional Pipe and Cable Locators trace electromagnetic signals traveling on metal pipes and cables, those signals will not travel on non-metallic pipes.
In collaboration with Radiodetection, Schonstedt is thrilled to offer the RD500 Plastic Water Pipe Locator for sale. Using a Pulse Transmitter, the RD500 Receiver traces vibrations traveling on plastic water pipes, over distances up to 500’ (150 m) and at depths up to 6’ (1.8 m). The RD500 water pipe finder is the accurate and easy way to quickly locate plastic water pipes.
How does the RD500 help find plastic pipes?
A Pulse Transmitter applies an acoustic signal to the end of a plastic pipe. The vibration radiates through the surrounding material and is detectable above ground through the RD500 Receiver, a sensitive “listening stick”. The closer to the pipe the operator gets, the louder the vibrations are.
COMPONENTS-
The RD500 Receiver is a lightweight, handheld “listening stick” with a peak response meter and a headphone jack. An earth spike is included for use on grass and soil; a ground plate is included for use on pavement, asphalt, or concrete.
The RD500 Pulse Transmitters are available in two types: Electronic or Mechanical. The #RD500-PRO Kit includes both the Electronic Pulse Transmitter and low, medium, and high Mechanical Pulse Transmitters.
- Electronic Pulse Transmitter provides a traceable, automatic, fixed pulse, independent of water pressure.
- Ideal for use in low pressure water supplies, such as sprinklers, hoses, or domestic supplies where push fittings may be part of the infrastructure
- Manual adjustment of the water pressure is not required when using the RD500-Tx Electronic Pulse Transmitter
- Mechanical Pulse Transmitters are heavy-duty brass castings that use water pressure to drive a pulse spring. As water is discharged, an oscillator reacts to water flow in the Pulse Transmitter body and applies a distinctive pressure wave to the water in the pipe.
- Mechanical Pulse Transmitters need adjusted for each application
- All transmitters need a flow of 1.3 – 2.6 US Gallons per minute. 160 psi / 11 bar is the maximum working pressure for the Pulse Transmitter.
- Three Mechanical Pulse Transmitters are available for applications with different water pressures
